Getting a distance education degree gives you the best of two worlds. On the one hand, you can continue to work at your current job, while on the other you know that you are bettering your education in preparation for your next, better-paying job. Certainly, some additional effort will be required. If you have a family, it will take some time to work out the schedule for studying that works best for you all – and perhaps to convince them that you are serious about keeping it! You may have to pass on that dinner out with friends or that party everyone is going to next weekend. But in the end, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you have done one of the best things you can do for your future by increasing your education.

There are some things that you can do in order to make this process easier. Most importantly, set a regular schedule for studying and make sure that you let the important people in your life know what it is. For example, perhaps you will study from 6pm to 9pm three weeknights as well as from 12 to 6 on Sundays. If you were in an actual classroom during this time, no one would consider bothering you. So let everyone know that you plan to treat your study time as if you are actually in class; unless there is a true emergency you won’t answer the phone, go out, or agree to social engagements. The kids will know they need to take their problems to their other parent – or wait until your study time is over! With this type of communication, earning your distance education degree will be easy for you and your family!
