An online degree education can be an inexpensive and incredibly convenient way to earn a degree. It is true that in some cases, the fees for online courses may be the same cost as those that you would take on campus, so you may wonder where the cost savings would come in. There are several possibilities. First, you have to consider the cost of commuting to campus and parking once you get there. If you are already a student, or if there is a school in your town that you could go to for on-campus courses, try an experiment. See how many miles it would be for you to drive round-trip from home to school (or work to school) and back home again. Now determine how many nights a week you might be going to school. Over time, you can see how the mileage adds up. Parking on campus can be expensive as well, and may be limited and competitive, depending on the size and location of the school.

But there are additional ways in which studying your courses online can be less expensive. You simply need to consider the value of your time. If you have to drive to campus, park, walk to the building, find the classroom and settle in, how much time would that take? Now add the time for the trip home. How much time out of your day does that take? How do you value that time in terms of what else you could be doing if you were to study at home? It might not be obvious at first, so ask your family how having you home for that time rather than out at school could make a difference to them. You’ll find that an online degree education can actually improve your quality of life as well as your education.
